I'm in the dilemma,...Ugh, jeans are the WORST!! I'm in the dilemma, but the other way lately. All my jeans are too big now. And wouldn't you know, I gave away all my "pre-baby" jeans that I figured I had no hope of ever getting back into right before we moved last year. My problem isn't necessarily my booty, but my hips, thighs, and calves. I'm muscular. They don't design jeans for size 4P muscular women. I can't tell you how many pairs of jeans (in the supposedly appropriate size) never make it past my knees. As far as dealing with the flab, I've found my new obsession - Pure Barre. I heard about it in LA from some new moms who were taking classes to lose weight. I never got the chance to go there. But they have a studio here in Scottsdale, and I was dying to try. Now I'm hooked. I got their DVD pack since the studio is an hour away and I don't have time to do that regularly. I do the DVDs almost daily, and try to get to a studio class once a month. The transformation in my body has been incredible - and my core is so much stronger! If they had one closer I'd want to teach. It's zero impact. Uses ballet, pilates, and yoga positions and isometric movements to tone and sculpt the body. They focus on the problem areas of women: thighs, seat, and abs, and they make sure to do all the areas of those locations (inner, top and outer thighs, outer seat, ledge, hamstrings, and all those abs). I've never done a workout that has made me have sore abs below the bellybutton for days! Highly recommend - even got my mom hooked :)Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13137593821028360705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8831467289251675208.post-88443555027303323502011-10-13T15:50:16.811-07:002011-10-13T15:50:16.811-07:00This is why I told my brother to get Ryleigh one o...This is why I told my brother to get Ryleigh one of the Kid Tough Cameras for her for her birthday. You always seems to do a lot of research and find good stuff.

I just had a comment about holding someone back/starting later because of age. I think it feels important to parents, but in reality I don't know if it is a big deal. I was youngest in my class and I wonder how my experience would have been different if I were the oldest - a whole year of emotional maturity can make a HUGE difference in high school when there are a lot of pressures. Plus, the oldest kid in the class gets to drive first, etc. And for sports, a year more of growth hardly hurts. Just some food for thought about worrying too much if your kid is old enough or not.Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12201481795202230032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8831467289251675208.post-87864915145868933062011-09-16T09:17:44.465-07:002011-09-16T09:17:44.465-07:00I totally think it's possible to homeschool a ...I totally think it's possible to homeschool a preschooler. However, as a public school teacher, I am a little hesitant to homeschool school-aged children. Obviously there are some circumstances where it's the best choice but let me give you some food for thought: 1) not all home school curriculums are accepted by universities. I know several families where after graduation the student still had to get their GED to get a diploma and that test is really hard. Also, there are so many social benefits for schooling. Also, when the curriculum gets harder, do you think you will be the best person for the job? For example, I teach middle school and there is NO WAY I could teach even middle school math. It's way too advanced for me :) If you aren't happy with the public school program you might want to look into charter schools or other private schools that have more of what you are looking for. I am not against homeschooling, but it does take a certain kind of focused person to make sure their child is getting a well-rounded, full education at home.Courtneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04102653012641065639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8831467289251675208.post-81762017378561081642011-09-15T22:36:38.882-07:002011-09-15T22:36:38.882-07:00Cole is 16 months old and I have yet to start exer...Cole is 16 months old and I have yet to start exercising again. How pathetic is that? It's just so hard when you spend the majority of your awake/productive/energized day at work. When I come home, I feel horribly guilty if I do anything not with the kids. I feel like I can't leave them to even go on a walk because I've been gone from them all day. And when I truly do have "me" time, it's from 10 pm until whenever I go to bed, so our rec center is closed and it's too dark to go outside alone. It's more of a mental roadblock for me with exercise... but at least you don't work at the health department where all your coworkers are health/exercise nuts who can't understand why you don't run marathons for fun everyday when you obviously have hours of free time. Oh wait, they don't have little kids.

Anyway...I remember with Pearl I got a plugged duct when she was about 9 months old. It took days for me to get it all worked out and hurt like crazy. Then it seemed to come and go until I finally stopped all together. Sometimes you have to give on something to survive and stay sane so if pumping has to go, then so be it.

And can I offer some advice? I love you Sandy. You are amazing! Mike is amazing! You have two beautiful girls. But.... if researching every single thing and feeling like you have to re-read all those parenting books on everything before you decide anything is stressing you out, then stop! Sometimes you just have to jump right in not knowing what you are doing or what the outcome might be to survive and stay sane. There are so many things I get hung up on that I think a good mom should be doing but you know what? It just stresses me out more and makes me feel like a failure. I really think moms have this built in sense of what to do, if we'd just stop long enough to listen. For example, I had to stop stressing about Pearl not learning everything I saw other moms who did co-op preschools or homeschooled did last year because it stressed her and me out. Waiting until she was 4 was the right choice for us in terms of doing more actual school lessons. Now she is gobbling up everything and so excited to learn. I'd only do homeschool as away to break up my day if I stayed at home and to spend time with my kids when they are little.

Ok, so my comment is long enough. Just remember you are amazing! Being a wife/mother and working is super hard. I struggled with depression after about two months back at work (sort of the time when everyone forgets you have a new baby) and it was so hard. It sucked the life out of me until I just had to tell myself to relax and enjoy things. Hang in there! And call when you come to town next and we will go to lunch.Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04885257974620393705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8831467289251675208.post-87376530070215571872011-09-15T15:17:12.007-07:002011-09-15T15:17:12.007-07:00Props to you for exploring that. We looked into doing it through the school district, but they had an August 31 cut off. They will let you enroll late if there's room, but you pay for the entire year, which I wasn't fond of. I've already looked into charter schools who will let her test in for Kindergarten because of the school district's cut off of 5 before Aug. 31 with no option to test in. Ry is already showing that she's about 6 months ahead in her educational development and even further ahead socially, so why hold her back when she's obviously ready? I agree that it should be based on ability, not age.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13137593821028360705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8831467289251675208.post-85809641511448678402011-09-15T14:48:56.865-07:002011-09-15T14:48:56.865-07:00I've never heard of that program. Everyone tells you if you go to college, you will find a good job, raise a happy family and things will be better than if you hadn't gone to school. But then when it doesn't work out that way, no one knows what to do or why. My Dad works for the Engineering department at USU and he knows Mike's family so Mike could always call and ask him what his thoughts are about jobs. I agree about getting a Master's degree, if nothing else to keep fresh in the field. Try to find another internship or any volunteer work in the field too so Mike can see other opportunities outside of civil engineering he might not know about or know he'd enjoy. At least this way he feels like he is still pursuing things and working towards something.Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04885257974620393705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8831467289251675208.post-11456988994855008862011-08-18T08:30:32.303-07:002011-08-18T08:30:32.303-07:00I think about you guys often and always have my ea...I think about you guys often and always have my ears open at Jeff's company. You're totally right about the future being a bit bleak. Jeff's company is barely getting enough work to get by--in Utah it is really rough right now because the vast majority of road money is tied up in the I15 and Mountain View Corridor projects.

Another thing is the debt cuts that are going to happen. Jeff said most likely, transportation will be cut some, if not by 50%. Just know I am always keeping my ears open for you guys and will let you know any time I hear something.

I think Sara had a good idea--just talking to Brian and have him watch for jobs. All I can say is hang in there. Things WILL work out for your family! When we were at our rock bottom, the only thing I knew to do was to put one foot in front of the other and just have faith that things would turn around. And they did, but it was really hard at first. Also, sometimes when I'm feeling down, I remind myself of all of my blessings, like my healthy children, things like that. That really seems to help me put things into perspective. I'll be praying for you both! :)Sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13898591117762460292noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8831467289251675208.post-1463095316115704942011-08-17T19:48:25.253-07:002011-08-17T19:48:25.253-07:00Hang in there! One graduate...My brothers are both civil engineers. One graduated in December of 2008. He knew he was going to go to ASU to get his masters, but he had THE HARDEST time finding an internship. The most coveted spots are with the state, but their EIT (Engineer in training) program has all these guys who are taking entry level positions due to the economy. He felt so defeated because how can you compare for an entry level job next to someone who's not a new grad? He eventually found an internship after a few months and has graduated with his masters in transportation engineering (a subset of civil engineering). The company he interned for offered him a full time job after graduation. He had experience with autoCAD and drafting for a mobile modular manufacturer that my dad works at (as a Civil Engineer), so he had a little bit of experience. My little brother just graduated in May with his degree in Civil Engineering. He too, tried to find an internship all summer in Phoenix or Tucson. No luck. He's starting his masters program at University of Arizona (where he's already done some of the master's coursework during his undergrad) and will be graduating in May 2012 with his Masters in transportation engineering as well. He's still on the hunt for an internship. The two huge engineering companies in Arizona are Honeywell and Raytheon. Both don't hire civil engineers - mechanical, electrical... any other type, but not civil. I told my brothers they should have gone into earthquake design or bridges or something really specialized, but they didn't like that.

Does Mike have his masters? or just his bachelors? If he doesn't have his masters, it may be something to look into. There are a lot of programs you can complete in 1 year based on undergrad coursework. With a Masters at least it separates him from the field a little bit more. And I'd have to think an employer is more likely to hire someone with a Masters degree than someone with only a bachelors. At least this is the thinking my brothers used when they realized they'd be graduating with a flooded job market. *Hugs* Everything will work out eventually! I know it's not easy not knowing what the future holds - been there!- but it does all work out the way it's supposed to in the end.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13137593821028360705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8831467289251675208.post-31553848594021496412011-08-05T23:26:55.132-07:002011-08-05T23:26:55.132-07:00aww... she looks sooo cute here!aww... she looks sooo cute here!Captivating Sparklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00711439527371605547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8831467289251675208.post-34195028449934643232011-08-05T23:23:44.765-07:002011-08-05T23:23:44.765-07:00OH she is sooo cute! :)
