I haven't posted to my blog for 2 weeks so I thought I should give an update. My pregnancy sickness has gotten worse. I can expect to vomit 1-2 times a day which isn't too bad if I am at home but is quite uncomfortable at work. I have started getting headaches at night and I am trying to hold off on taking any medication.
The good news is I am 9 weeks so hopefully by week 13 I will be feeling much better. I am looking forward to spring and being able to go walking outside and doing some physical activity. Next week is my first doctors appointments so I am looking forward to hearing the baby's heartbeat.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse...
So I didn't think the pregnancy sickness could get any worse. Boy was I wrong. Before I was just queasy now it is full blown I need to throw up. I am receiving emails with tips and suggestions and an email came last week about carrying a plastic bag in my purse for those vomiting emergencies. I shrugged it off when I read it but I now will be carrying a heavy duty ziplock in my bag from now on.

The nose
So I am finally recovering from the flu. Last night was the first night I was able to breath out of my nose instead of my mouth while I was sleeping. While I was sick I forgot how sensitive my smell was and now that I look back it was a nice break. I got ready for work and off I went. During my walk across campus, the smells of food and who knows what made my stomach so queasy I wanted to run and hide.
It is amazing the odors I can smell and how nauseas I can get. The smallest fragrances/odors feel like an assault on my nose. When someone is eating lunch at work, it feels like a huge odor cloud has encompassed my whole head. I can't wait for this to pass.

6 weeks and counting...
Last week Mike and I found out that we were pregnant. Yeah!!! I took a pregnancy test January 27, 2008 expecting it to come out negative. Boy was I wrong. We were planning on it but wasn't expecting it to happen so quickly. My due date is September 27. My first doctor's appointment is March 6.
Mike caught the flu a couple of days later and unfortunately I caught the flu too. I have never had the flu before and it was the worst illness I have ever had considering I couldn't take any medicine whatsoever. I had 2 moments of weakness where I took medicine though.
The pregnancy sickness overall hasn't been terrible but it hasn't been great either. All day I feel tired and sick in the stomach but I can't ever let my stomach get too hungry or I get nauseas and I can't eat too much or I get sick. Everything that sounds good is out of season i.e. mangoes, cantaloupes, grapes, blueberries etc... and the choices I have now are less than appetizing.
In the late evening I actually feel pretty good. Unfortunately no matter how tired I feel in the day time I haven't been able to sleep well in the past couple of weeks. And my emotions are a constant roller coaster. My endurance has plummeted too. In December I was running 3-4 miles and now I can't walk across campus without getting winded. So right now it is an uphill battle.
Mike and I haven't told many people yet and I was planning on waiting until we get an ultrasound of the baby. From my estimation the majority of the pregnancy sickness will be gone in 5 weeks and hopefully I will be able to eat better and start working out again.
