Teething and binkies

Olivia cut her first tooth about 2 weeks ago and she didn't even fuss. Her second tooth broke through this weekend and she was a little grumpy and ran a low grade fever. Really this is the first time she was fussy. I would take a picture of her new teeth except they are so tiny I wouldn't be able to get a good picture.

I am also thinking about taking her binky away. If your baby had a binky when did you decide to take the binky away?

Awesome she is cutting teeth so easy! That is great.

About binkies... John has one. He just turned 2 a couple weeks ago. He uses it for naptime and bedtime. Otherwise, I don't let him have it.

I wish I had weaned him from it sooner (like when he was a year or so... and didn't have the same kind of will or understanding he has now...). BUT on the flip side I wonder if weaning him from it at that age would have encouraged thumb-sucking. You can't take away a thumb! I tried weaning him a couple months ago but it really was a power struggle - and I decided not to fight it. So I am waiting. I plan to wean John completely before he is 3. I am secretly hoping that when his brother is born in July, I can use that as an opportunity to wean him. Who knows. We'll see - he is also nearing "moving to a big bed" and "potty training" phases. I don't want to throw too much on him!

It is hard taking away something that kids can use to self-soothe. He also has a little stuffed monkey he uses for comfort.

Brielle just stopped on her own around 9 months--it just depends on you and you want them to be done or wait and see and just have an age you will take it away if they haven't stopped already.

Brielle did start again when I had Teja and we let her cause she mostly chewed on it for her 2 year molers...then we just cut it and threw it away so she could see and that was the end...we did that for the bottle too. and she cried once or twice for it and taht was it. I was so afraid she would be a monster, but really she is much less whiny. and she sometimes fusses for a few minutes but that is just how she soothes herself now. its never more than five minutes.

My little guy is 16 months and he still uses a binkie. I only let him have it at night and naptime. He knows that when he gets out of the crib he throws the binkie into the bed. We started having it only at night when he turned one, maybe a little earlier.

It is so nice to have that and his blanket so that he knows that it is time for bed. It will be hard to break him (I'm thinking at 2)but it makes night time and nap tiem and church SOOOOOO much easier on us and I don't think it is harmful to him...

I stopped Sydney with her binkie at 6 months. My opinion is that it is easier to take it away at a young age to avoid teeth damage and to avoid a power struggle between you. It went very well with Sydney.
